The Greatest Revolution is How We See the World

universe is self organizing

“The greatest revolution of our time is in the way we see the world. The mechanistic paradigm underlying the Industrial Growth Society gives way to the realization that we belong to a living, self-organizing cosmos. General systems theory, emerging from the life sciences, brings fresh evidence to confirm ancient, indigenous teachings: the Earth is alive, mind is pervasive, all beings are our relations. This realization changes everything. It changes our perceptions of who we are and what we need, and how we can trustfully act together for a decent, noble future.

Each system, from atom to galaxy, is a whole. That means that it is not reducible to its components. Its distinctive nature and capacities derive from the interactive relationships between its parts. This interplay is synergistic, generating “emergent properties” and new possibilities, which are not predictable from the character of the separate parts–just as the wetness of water could not be predicted from oxygen and hydrogen before they combined, or just as the tensile strength of steel far exceeds the combined strengths of iron and nickel.

Every system is a “holon”– that is, it is both a whole in its own right, comprised of subsystems, and simultaneously an integral part of a larger system. Thus holons form “nested hierarchies,” systems within systems, circuits within circuits, fields within fields. Each new holonic level– say from atom to molecule, cell to organ, person to family– generates emergent properties that are nonreducible to the capacities of the separate components…”

How Roland Rolls by Jim Carrey

jim carrey childrens book

Over the past 20 years, Carrey has made us laugh with his block-buster comedic films (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Dumb and Dumber, Liar, Liar and Bruce Almighty), provoked us with his serious ones (Man on the Moon, The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and enchanted us with his family fare (How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Mr. Popper’s Penguins.)

In his latest project, Carrey entertains, enlightens and inspires with “How Roland Rolls.”   It is a small, simple book for kids that encourages one to dream big and challenge limitations.  It charmingly and wittily presents the universal truth of humanity’s interconnectedness and unity through the metaphor of a wave in the sea. Roland, the wave, is afraid that “one day, when he hits the beach, his life will be over. But when he gets deep, he’s struck by the notion that he’s not just a wave — he’s the whole big, wide ocean!”

The book is illustrated by award-winning illustrator Rob Nason, who provides glorious visual accompaniment to Carrey’s beautiful message.

More Reviews of “How Roland Rolls:”

“Philosophers and scientists struggle to understand cosmic consciousness, but Jim Carrey explains it with elegant simplicity to the child in all of us. We are the ocean rolling along as Roland the Wave becoming raindrop, river, cloud, and becoming the life throb of ages dancing in us this moment.”
Deepak Chopra
Author, Teacher, Physician

“Jim Carrey does for children what he does for adults, using humor and light- heartedness to reveal deeper insights. Like all great fairy tales, How Roland Rolls addresses ultimate truth in a fanciful package. Bravo.”
Marianne Williamson
Author, Teacher

“Carrey’s created a charming, fun to read, beautifully illustrated book with Roland the wave as a metaphor for the interrelatedness of everything in the world.”

The Free Soul

the free soul

“The free soul is rare, but you know it when you see it – basically because you feel good, very good, when you are near or with them.”

John Lennon on God

“I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It’s just that the translations have gone wrong.”

The Journey Of Opening Your Heart

self love

In order to make this journey of opening your heart, radical self-kindness must become your new object of meditation. If sadness comes, if shame appears, if loneliness arrives, if despair rages within, practice holding these long lost pieces of yourself in an environment of clear space. Nothing has gone wrong, you are not broken, and no mistake has been made. Please stay close. My god, there is so much grace inside your body.

Open, friend, to the possibility that your somatic-emotional world is a wisdom field, come into this world not in order to be healed, transformed, changed, or interpreted, but so that you may finally dance with it as you would with your sweetest, most tender lover. Give everything to know what you are, for it is so precious. Please don’t hold back, for this weary place needs you.

The beloved is here and she will continue to send her envoys into your life, in the form of oneness and separation, broken and whole, confusion and clarity, and sadness and joy. Each of love’s forms has come to unlock a secret place within you, so that a unique form of light can come through into this world. As you let go of billions of years of abandoning your grace body and your miracle senses, a great burning will be unleashed throughout this love-star.

Yes, you will burn until you are translucent, but it is within this burning that your gifts will be revealed.
