20 Ways Meditating Connects You to Your Higher Self

Benefits to Meditating

Just as we look to food and exercise for physical nourishment, we should look to mediation and prayer to nourish our spiritual selves.  In fact, meditation is spiritual exercise. It’s a daily workout that develops attitudinal muscles and keeps them strong. If left unattended, weak spiritual muscles bring up thoughts like anger, judgement and fear.

As “A Course in Miracles” says, “We are much too tolerant of mind-wandering. Miracles and miraculous shifts happen in meditation. It ignites our spirit. Deep inner peace, forgiveness and love all arise in a meditative mind. The busy mind can not create these circumstances.”

While it offers many physical health benefits, the spiritual health returns are undeniable.  Consider a 15-minute meditation your spiritual vitamin for the day.

Here are 20 reasons you might want to get up a bit earlier tomorrow morning.

Spiritual benefits:

1- It ignites our spirit.

But one of the best things about Meditation is that it’s completely free. If you need a guide, there are plenty of free meditations on YouTube. It requires no special equipment, and is not complicated to learn. It can be practiced anywhere, at any given moment, and it is not time consuming (15-20 min. per day is good). Best of all, meditation has NO negative side effects. Bottom line, there is nothing but positive to be gained from it. With such a huge list of benefits, the question you should ask yourself is, “why am I not meditating yet?”

If you need a point to start from, you should try a simple guide to meditation for beginners. This can provide you with a good foundation from which to begin your meditation practice.

We also love this heart chakra music meditation.

It’s pretty simple -make sure you meditate.  There are quite simply too many positives to just ignore it.

Introduction to Psi and Its Link to Spirituality

Have you ever had an experience that could be classified as “paranormal”?  Maybe you had a dream that later came true or perhaps you were dealing with a dilemma in your life and found that you later had a dream that provided clarity? Experiences of “knowing” things, such as a friend being pregnant, sensing who’s calling before you see the ID or knowing what song is coming on the radio next are known as psi.

The term ”Psi” was derived from the greek words for ‘mind and soul’ and was first coined by Robert Thouless and  B.P. Wiesner, who introduced the term Psi in 1942, as a replacement for the term “paranormal.”  They were hoping to remove some pre-existing biases the word ‘paranormal’ invokes.

And yet Psi Phenomena, and the discipline of Parapsychology remains outside the scope of conventional, generally accepted practices of the traditional scientific community. Providing evidence in the validity of the claims is the field’s main obstacle. Can traditional sciences interact and co-exist with metaphysical sciences?  It seems that no matter how advanced traditional science becomes, no matter how many Nobel prizes are awarded, no matter how many new discoveries replace outdated theories, there still exists a void filled with events and questions that conventional science can not explain.

Perhaps that is exactly why psi and spirituality are so intertwined.  Neither can be proven though heavy documentation encompasses both.

In December 2008, TIME Magazine ran an article called “The Science Behind Psychic Phenomena,” where M. J. Stephey interviewed Diane Hennacy Powell who authored a book exploring psi phenomena throughout history. Her book, “The ESP Enigma: The Scientific Case for Psychic Phenomena” addresses the premonitory dreams President Abraham Lincoln had about his imminent death, Albert Einstein‘s theories of the space-time continuum, and the continuing stigma surrounding the field of parapsychology.  Just two examples of how our inventors and world shifters had psi related experiences.  (Both men were notably spiritual as well).

Jeffrey Mishlove, Director of Intuition Network said psi experiences cover a wide range of paranormal events, some of which are remote-viewing, clairvoyance, ESP, telepathy, and near-death experience. Since there’s really no rational explanation to those experiences, it becomes logical to feel that somehow a higher power or consciousness must be involved in the process.

Yet the question remains: Why is the existing literature on psi phenomena routinely dismissed by the scientific community and virtually ignored within the academic community? As science journalist Jonah Lehrer says about research findings on psi phenomena, “They’ve been demonstrated dozens of times, often by reputable scientists … Why, then, do serious scientists dismiss the possibility of psi? Why do rational people assume that parapsychology is ludicrous? Because these exciting results have consistently failed the test of replication.”

Regardless if a psi experience happens once or twice, it undeniably happens.  The lack of consistency may make the phenomenon harder to predict, study, or duplicate,  but perhaps that is the beauty of the experience.  It is a pure, mysterious glimpse into a realm we never knew existed within ourselves. And in the end, some of our most powerful forces remain unseen.
